Wesley made his grand entrance into this world around 8:30 am on the morning of Monday, November 22, 1982, at LaGuardia Hospital in Forest Hills, Queens, New York.
His was an easy birth. At a healthy 7.2 lbs., 21 inches with the cay-u-test little face framed with a head full of shiny black curls, he was immediately loved and admired by all who encountered him. From the beginning, his set of very healthy lungs commanded attention; a trademark affixed to him like a birthmark for everyone to know he was to be seen and to be heard without delay.
Always a finicky eater, Wesley was far more cautious about what he would eat than what his natural curiosity, intelligence and predilection for physical activity would get him into. Wesley enjoyed learning, talking, making new friends, talking, drawing/sketching, talking, playing video games, talking, kidding around, talking, fashion, talking, challenging others, talking, dancing, and talking - as well as most activities that would athletically challenge him and that he would talk about later.
Wesley really liked playing baseball and football; he taught himself to swim and had a natural gift for basketball. However, it was the extreme sport of rollerblading which excited him to perform stunts at high speeds: up and down ramps, stairs, railings, over and under physical obstacles. The blades allowed him to fly, to take on any challenge, and to command attention from all who watched as he successfully conquered each feat that made for a really cool story - he would tell anyone who would listen.
Since Wesley tended to see himself as the smartest person he knew, he was not the most patient student, and in school he would literally walk out of a classroom while the lesson was being taught because he had “learned” the lesson and was bored. Having obtained his High School Equivalency Diploma before his peers graduated high school, there was hope for what Wesley's future might hold and a prayer that his superb intellect would make it easy for him to live a fulfilling existence. However, if one knows Wesley like those who Love Wesley know Wesley, then one knows “easy” wasn’t part of Wesley’s vocabulary. So much so, one is left to wonder if the phrase, “if it’s not hard to obtain, then it’s not worth the effort,” was his motto.
As a result of his "suspected" life’s motto, Wesley experienced a myriad of life experiences that ran the gamut from challenging to exhilarating. Fortunately, as the universe saw fit, Wesley
was blessed to meet, and to marry, Renee. Together they bore a beautiful daughter, whom Wesley named Violet.
From the day of her birth, Wesley's love for Violet was vibrant and deep, and he would not only repeatedly tell Violet how much he loved her, but at the mention of Violet's name, he would happily and proudly share his sentiments regarding his beloved daughter with almost anyone he met.
As we Memorialize the Transition of our Dear Wesley on the 14th of December, 2024, our minds and hearts are filled with the memory of Wesley’s optimistic and loving spirit along with prayer that Violet, filled with her Father's Love, will proudly carry the torch and bear positive fruit throughout her life's journey, that will not only be fulfilling for her but that will also enhance her Father's legacy, along with the legacy of his parents, grandparents, and those before him.
It is with this one mind and with this one focus with which we pray.
